Upon reading the title there may
be a number of thoughts which flow through one’s mind. One, out of curiosity,
may click the link to see what is able to survive after man’s demise. Others
may have a good idea and think, “Maybe he is writing of the eternal soul which
dwells in man.” While it is true that man has an eternal soul which God created
(Zec. 12:1) and will one day return
to God until the judgment (Ecc. 12:7, 14)
that is not the thrust of this article. There is something, other than the
spirit within man, which will live on after he is dead and buried. His
influence will live on for generations to come. Think about that for one
moment. Every individual who reads this article will touch a number of lives
through the actions he commits or does not commit. Everyone who does not read
this article will touch a numbers of lives through his actions. Every man,
woman, and child will have an effect on the life of another. The question is,
“What type of influence do YOU wish to have on this world when you are gone?”
One could choose to have the type of influence that men such as Hitler and
others have. Though they no longer live, the spirit of hatred which dwelled in
them is alive and well in others. That same person could choose to have the
type of influence that Abel has on many today. “By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by
which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts:
and by it he being dead yet speaketh” (Heb.
11:4; cf. Gen. 4:4-5). Even in these modern times, the example and
influence of Abel still lives on. It teaches the proper respect for God, His
commands, and how our actions as Christians are to be done by faith. As the influence of Abel still lives to this day, the
influence of this author, the reader, and others will remain after death comes
calling. What type of influence you YOU wish to have on this world when
you are gone?
