What Can the Addict Do?
Remember, there is a
way out. Sometimes it seems as if there is no escape when one is deep within an
addiction. It may be like someone stuck deep within a pit. That person seeks a
way out. He tries to climb out with no success. He cries out for help to no
avail. After a series of unsuccessful attempts, he sits down and is ready die.
Moments later, a rope drops into the pit and there is a friendly face ready to
save him. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:
but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are
able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be
able to bear it” (1 Corinthians
10:13). One must remember these temptations we face are nothing new. While,
men such as Joseph and David never had internet access, they faced the same
manner of temptation as do all men. One also sees the punishments which came
when David yielded to the temptation and blessings Joseph received from
abstaining. God also has made a way of escape for us when we are faced with
these trials. It is like one is stuck in a pit and there is a rope made
available by God to help us escape. You can get free from this.
Remember,
You Are Not Alone
One may feel as if
there is no one around to who can understand. Remember the case of Elijah who
thought that he was the only person faithful to God (1 Kings 19:10). God let him know that he was not alone. There are
others who are feeling many of the things you feel. There are support groups who
will encourage you along your journey. Some of them are found online. There is
another group who will help encourage you during this time.
“Brethren, if a man
be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the
spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one
another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:1-2). The church is there to encourage you during
your time of need. These individuals are there for you to help you because they
want you to go to Heaven. Who knows? Someone there may be facing the same
problem as you are and your example will help them in overcoming this problem.
You may even find someone who dealt with the same issue and can help you. Just
remember that you are not alone.
