We
have a tendency to forget those who are in the background. For example, when an
individual is watching a movie that individual will focus on the main stars of
the movie but not so much those who are “background players.” Due to this fact
some movie companies have hidden what are called “easter eggs” in the
background of certain scenes. It is because most individuals will not focus on
the background but will keep their eyes on the forefront. Keeping that idea in
mind, man has a tendency to do that to individuals we read of in the Bible. We
focus on those who are more in the forefront. If one were asked, “When you hear
the word ‘apostle,’ of whom do you think?” where would the mind roam? Likely
that person would first think of Paul, Peter, or maybe even Judas because of
the roles these individuals played within the confines of the Bible. We tend to
forget about the other men who played the same important role. We should
understand that every man, woman, and child who is mentioned in the Bible is
mentioned for a good reason. God intended those individuals and their lives to
be left for our learning (Rom. 15:4).
One of these individuals is the apostle Andrew. When compared to his brother,
Peter, this man is mentioned by name in only a few verses, but in those few
verses he can teach us much.
