James and John: The Sons of Thunder

Have you ever met a person who was obnoxious/hateful/tactless/distasteful/just downright disagreeable? A person who, upon first meeting them, was one who you wished you would never meet again. It is that one person who you try to avoid because of their actions and words. Skip to a few years later. You meet that person again and something seems a bit different about them. This person has a different demeanor about them. While his words at one time littered with “foul language,” these words no longer flow freely from his mouth. While his actions were that which lacked self control, he is now more thoughtful of what his actions may do to others. There is a discernible change in everything this person does and it is a change for the better. There are many things which can cause a person to make such a change. The death of a loved one can cause a person to come to the realization that life is brief (Jam.4:14) and a change must be made. There are many who have made a change due to the birth of a child. Sometimes the problems of life are enough to make one come to his senses and realize that something needs to change and soon (Luke 15:17). It may end up being for the reason that two men made an important change in their lives. Over the next few days we will be studying about these brothers as we look at “James and John: The Sons of Thunder.”
